The Isaac Delgado Society
This society celebrates those who remember the museum in their estate plans or make a planned gift. There are no dues or fees associated with membership. With permission, society members are recognized in certain publications and receive invitations to patron previews and a special annual event. Most importantly, members of the Isaac Delgado Society know they are ensuring NOMA’s standards of excellence for future generations. All are welcome and qualify for membership in the Society by:
- Naming NOMA in a will
- Designating life insurance policy proceeds to the Museum, or by donating an insurance policy
- Making NOMA a beneficiary of a retirement plan, IRA, 401(k), or 403(b)
- Transferring real estate to NOMA through life estate
- Promising a gift of a work of art that the museum has agreed to accept

NOMA’s Past, Present, and Future
The New Orleans Museum of Art is dedicated to excellence in collecting, exhibiting, preserving, conserving, and interpreting art for all ages. Founded in 1910, NOMA was a gift to the city from philanthropist Isaac Delgado. With a permanent collection of 35,000 works, NOMA is noted for its strengths in American and French art, photography, glass, decorative arts, and African and Japanese art. In 2003, philanthropists Sydney and Walda Besthoff donated approximately 55 sculptures by twentieth and twenty-first century artists and opened the five-acre sculpture garden site located adjacent to the museum.
We recognize the pivotal role of private collectors in not only the growth of the permanent collection, but in creating its essential character by supporting specific areas of world art. Hundreds of people have generously donated works of art to the museum over the years, and we recognize those donors who have played a transformative role in setting new directions for the future growth of the collection.
Continuing the Tradition
As we embark on the next hundred years, members of the Isaac Delgado Society play a role and ensure the museum will remain a critical cultural asset by providing generous resources for the future. By naming the museum in wills, insurance policies, and retirement plans, or making a planned gift, the Isaac Delgado Society members provide a lasting legacy for all.
Your estate and planned gifts are used to help build the museum’s endowment. Outright or planned gifts of $100,000 or more allow you to create a permanent named endowment fund. Endowments may be named for the donor or in honor of others, creating lasting and meaningful tributes. Please let us know your intentions so that we can be sure to accommodate your wishes.
As the New Orleans Museum of Art enters its second century of service, it needs to grow its endowment so that it may meet the challenges of the future. Besides the bequest of art works, the bequest of cash or convertible assets (such as stocks, bonds, IRAs, insurance, and real estate) will ensure the full funding of the following essential programs and services:
- Endowed curatorial positions
- Exhibitions
- Educational opportunities for children and adults
- Sculpture Garden maintenance
- Lecture series
- Publications
- Members’ events
- Musical programs
- Building improvements
- Capital additions
- General operations
- Art purchases
A gift of any amount may be designated by the donor for any of these or other specific purposes.
