NOTE: France has declared today through July 18 a period of national mourning. There will be a vigil at 6 pm in front of the museum, and all outdoor activities have been canceled. Activities inside NOMA will continue as scheduled.

Named the third best Bastille Day celebration in the world by Reuters.com, Bastille Day Fête is excited to announce its new home at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Now in its fifth year, the celebration will be bringing even more of its French flair to the people of New Orleans. Admission is free for NOMA members.

About Giselle Bonfaire

Giselle Bonfaire, vocalist and pianist, has been described as classy, relaxing, and versatile. In Break Thru Media magazine, Dean Shapiro said Giselle is “specializing in songs from the 1920s through the 1950s, including French ­language songs. Being of German and Alsace­ Lorraine (French) heritage, she remarked that ‘I’ve been more tuned into the French side, through years of language classes and music.’ ” Giselle serenaded diners at Chateau du Lac Bistro in Old Metairie 25 times; presented her program of “French Songs of Love & Longing” for the Trinity Artist Series; and provided overviews of music history in Brittany and Provence as part of Culture Classes at L’Union Francaise. She’s finalizing an Edith Piaf tribute program. Giselle’s recent special event performances include a “Dancing with Degas”­themed fundraiser for the New Orleans Ballet Theatre and the 175th Anniversary Gala at Antoine’s Restaurant­­ in conjunction with the Historic New Orleans Collection. For that Prohibition Era­ themed event, her focus was well­ loved American songs from the 1920s­ and 1930s.

About Café NOMA’s 2016 Artful Palate Summer Cooking Series

Chefs of the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group will soon demonstrate their own culinary masterpieces at Café NOMA’s Artful Palate, the fifth annual summer cooking series featuring nine artfully inspired demonstrations at the historic New Orleans Museum of Art. Friday evenings are FREE for all café guests and patrons to partake in the presentation, and savor samples as each artful dish is created.

In conjunction with the launch of NOMA’s exhibition The Essence of Things: Design and the Art of Reduction, the talented executive chefs, sous chefs and mixologists of Café NOMA, Ralph’s on the Park, Red Fish Grill, Brennan’s, and Napoleon House will share their culinary vision inspired by the exhibits focus on the art and practice of minimalism. The Artful Palate demonstrations will take a minimalist approach to cooking; featuring local seafood, meats, fruits and vegetables with simplistic recipes highlighting the core of their natural essence.

The Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group is proud to operate Café NOMA, one of the “Best Museum Restaurants in America” according to Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine magazines. Artful Palate is held every Friday night at 6:30pm from July 15 to September 9. It is free of charge and open on a first come, first served basis. About Delacroix

For many lovers of Western Art, the 1830 painting Liberty Leading the People remains the ultimate image of the Romantic Age. A contemporary, revolutionary canvas full of color and movement, it remains the masterpiece of Eugene Delacroix. His respect for Old Masters like Rubens was strong, and his three decades of Parisian mural work was steeped in the tradition of the Renaissance and the Baroque. One short journey to North Africa also inspired a huge number of memorable canvases that captured the light of the region as no artist had done before. This program explores Delcroix’s work with location footage as well as commentaries and analyses from leading authorities, art historians, and scholars. (50 minutes)

Famed for seeing the subtle nuances of color, light, and atmosphere in landscape, Monet’s great works include Haystacks and Water Lilies. This program features footage from L’Orangerie and from Monet’s house and gardens at Giverny plus special film shot at London’s Savoy Hotel from where Monet painted his famous vies of London.
