DESCRIPTION:Classes with Curators \nInterested in taking a closer look at NOMA’s collections? Want to take a deep dive into our special exhibitions? Join NOMA curators as they explore a variety of topics and take you behind the scenes in our new Classes with Curators series. Designed for small groups of no more than twenty students\, classes are organized into three parts and are taught by one or more members of our professional staff. \nThis fall the New Orleans Museum of Art presents The Orléans Collection\, an exhibition reuniting masterpieces of European Art from the collection of our city’s namesake\, Philippe II\, Duc d’Orléans. In conjunction with this landmark exhibition\, Classes with Curators will explore the origins of Philippe II’s collection\, connoisseurship and art viewing in early eighteenth-century Paris\, and the role of the Palais-Royal in communicating ideas about art. \n$150 per series for nonmembers; $125 for members \nENROLL NOW \nPlease contact education@noma.org for more information. \n  \nLOOKING AT ART IN EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY PARIS: CURATORS\, COLLECTORS\, AND CONNOISSEURS\nVanessa Schmid\, Senior Research Curator for European Art \nKelsey Brosnan\, Doris Zemurray Stone Curatorial Fellow for European Art \n  \nTuesdays\, November 27\, December 4\, and 11 | 6–8 pm \n  \nNovember 27 | Session I: The Origins of The Orléans Collection  \nThe first session will take the class through the development\, research\, and practicalities of exhibition planning. Participants will learn about the field of the history of collecting and the unique questions engaged by this exhibition. \nDecember 4 | Session II: Connoisseurship: Art Viewership in Paris ca. 1700  \nPhilippe d’Orléans and his circle were actively engaged in categorizing and investigating the range of styles represented in European Art\, and his collecting reflects ideas debated in the French Academy. We will review foundational texts about looking at works of art and consider the role of connoisseurship as presented in The Orléans Collection. \nDecember 11 | Session III: Reimagining the Palais-Royal  \nThe final session will consider the cultural\, social and political life of Philippe’s Paris residence\, the Palais-Royal.
