DESCRIPTION:The NOLA Project presents its ninth collaborative play at the New Orleans Museum of Art with a new take on William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. \nStandard admission $33 | NOMA members: $25 | Youth (under 21): $15 \nPURCHASE TICKETS FOR ALL DATES  \nABOUT MEASURE FOR MEASURE BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE\nWhen depravity and debauchery threaten to corrode the whole of Vienna\, a strong\, willful\, religious purist is handed the reigns of power in order to set things straight again. But is all as it seems? And will new power lead to moral purity\, or to ultimate corruption? Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure is a brilliant play almost absurdly well-fashioned for our modern American age of divisive politics and legal retribution. \nAnd even more exciting\, The NOLA Project is proud to partner with PlayOn Shakespeare to present this production with a world-premiere new modern-verse translation by playwright AdidiBrennan Kapil with support from the Hitz Foundation. \nAs a part of PlayOn Shakespeare\, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival commissioned 36 playwrights—more than half are women and more than half are playwrights of color\, each paired with a dramaturg—to translate Shakespeare’s works into contemporary modern English to celebrate the enduring impact of the Bard’s plays. These commissions challenge the playwrights to bring the same level of dramatic pressure and rigor of language to their work as is present in the originals\, deepening our understanding and engagement with Shakespeare. The NOLA Project is excited to present this classic story and fresh modern translation\, directed by Mark Routhier\, in NOMA’s opulent Great Hall. \n
