NEW ORLEANS, LA- Susan M. Taylor, the Montine McDaniel Freeman Director at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA), announced today the appointment of Anne Phayer Baños as Deputy Director who will begin her work at NOMA July 6.
“Anne has an impressive record of leadership in major New Orleans organizations where she has served in critical roles tasked with the implementation of strategic initiatives and increased institutional capacity. We are delighted to welcome her to NOMA as we embark on a number of new and ambitious projects” said Taylor. “She will serve as an integral member of our senior team working closely with museum and board leadership to advance the strategic priorities of NOMA.”

Baños will come to NOMA following a long career in higher education. Most recently, Baños served as Tulane University’s Chief of Staff and Vice President of Administrative Services. In this role, she supported the President’s university-wide projects, issues and initiatives, including playing a key role in the university’s rebuilding and renewal following Hurricane Katrina. She was also responsible for a number of operational entities, including Workforce Management, University Services and Emergency Management among others.
Additionally, Banos has extensive experience in fund raising and external relations, having spent a decade at Loyola University New Orleans in a variety of positions, including Assistant Vice President for Development. A graduate of Newcomb College of Tulane University, she began her career at Tulane in the Office of Admissions.
About NOMA and the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden
The New Orleans Museum of Art, founded in 1910 by Isaac Delgado, houses nearly 40,000 objects encompassing 5,000 years of world art. Works from the permanent collection, along with continuously changing special exhibitions, are on view in the museum’s 46 galleries Fridays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The adjoining Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden features work by over 60 artists, including several of the 20th century’s master sculptors. The Sculpture Garden is open seven days a week: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The New Orleans Museum of Art and the Besthoff Sculpture Garden are fully accessible to handicapped visitors and wheelchairs are available from the front desk.
