Baby Arts Play! and Family Art Workshops begin this month at NOMA
New Orleans, LA- NOMA is implementing two new family programs this spring: Baby Arts Play! and Family Art Workshops. In addition to Studio KIDS! art classes and StoryQuest, NOMA will host these new regularly scheduled programs in order to further engage children and the entire family with the arts.
“Art education can be a valuable element of any person’s life, and we hope these programs create a realm where families feel they can achieve this,” said Allison Reid, Deputy Director for Interpretation and Audience Development.. “We hope to spark creativity in children and foster their artistic development in a positive way.”
Family Art Workshops offer a guided, hands-on art-making experience led by teaching artists. Each skill-building workshop will emphasize developing basic drawing techniques and focus on different subject matter, inspired by NOMA’s collection. Family workshops will take place once a month on Sundays from 2-3 p.m. The program is $5 for NOMA members, $5 plus generaladmission for nonmembers and is ideal for children ages 5-8. The first Family Art Workshop will coincide with Family Day at NOMA on Saturday, January 24th.
Baby Arts Play! at NOMA will provide young children with art engagement through guided, hands-on gallery experiences.NOMA, in collaboration with Young Audiences and the Wolf Trap Foundation, will present a series of 12 workshops for caregivers and children ages 1-2 years old. Music, movement, and drama will be integrated to foster children’s developmental growth. Beginning January 27th, Baby Arts Play! will take place Tuesdays at 1 p.m.
NOMA will continue its popular Studio KIDS! and StoryQuest series in 2015 as well. Studio KIDS! From beading to painting, each class features different media, and students will learn 2 and 3-dimensional techniques. Classes are $25 for NOMA members, $35 for non-members and limited to 12 students, so prior registration is necessary. People can call 504-658-4128 or email education@noma.org to register.
